Daniel Oldaker is an Australian/European based physical comedian, writer, producer, MC, and variety artist. Born in Ballarat, Victoria, he found his inspiration in the small delights of his grandfather's magic and puppetry shows during visits. Eager to spread joy, Daniel at age 8 began practicing and performing magic for family and friends. With guidance from mentors, he honed his circus and acting talents, eventually charming audiences and winning first prize on the Red Faces TV Variety Show when he was 18. Following his passion, he left home to study at Circo-Arts Circus School in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he honed his skills in circus and physical comedy and got inspired by films by Jacque Tati.
After returning to Australia, Oldaker became a fixture in many festivals, including the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. It was during this time that he started writing and producing in addition to performing. He developed his vaudeville-inspired character, "Bell Boy," and created his signature character, "Dandyman."
"Dandyman" has been compared to classic international characters like Jacque Tati, Mr. Bean, and Buster Keaton. Known for his idiosyncratic fetish for paper drinking straws, Oldaker began to cultivate an international audience, touring through Europe, Asia, and America. His reputation as a "performer's performer" grew, earning him awards and critical acclaim. Reviewers hailed him as "masterful," "playful," and a "valued contributor to the arts." He received accolades such as the Best International Act Award at the Busan Comedy Festival in Korea, a nomination for the Just for Laughs award at the St Ambroise Festival in Montreal, and the Patrons Pick award at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
Oldaker has been instrumental in providing platforms for other artists to develop skills and acts by producing a variety show called "Acts of Absurdity" which starred some of the best variety talent around the world in the one place. Daniel has appeared on multiple TV shows including ABC's "The Sideshow", Tú Sí Que Vales (Italian TV Variety Show) and Romanias Got Talent.
Oldaker's contributions extend beyond his performances. He produced the street theatre festival "Fun Fest" in Bendigo for three years and organised countless tours along the East Coast of Australia and world tours spanning over 30 countries. In response to the pandemic in 2020, he pivoted to online performances and played a key role in creating one of the most successful online Zoom variety shows in Australia, if not the world.
Daniel Oldaker is bringing his latest activation to the stage, titled "Day with Dandy." This immersive experience offers a comprehensive package featuring a captivating performance, engaging workshops, and the opportunity to be part of a local talent show. Additionally, Daniel presents his acclaimed production, "DING DILEMMAS", where he takes on the role of a manager of a Hotel. With the inclusion of special guests and outrageous scenarios, the show builds up to a thrilling climax where everything spirals out of control.
